Today we review 3 museums in Tenerife that you can not miss if you like to include in your trip some cultural experience.
Although the main attraction of the island of Tenerife are its beaches, landscapes and climate, the cultural offer is wide and for all audiences.
MUNA – Museum of Nature and Archeology
It is located in the capital of the island, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, in a historic building that before being used as a museum was the Old Civil Hospital, dating from 1749 and neoclassical style. In 1983 it was declared an Asset of Cultural Interest.
The MUNA houses the Archaeological Museum of Tenerife, the Canarian Institute of Bioanthropology and the Museum of Natural Sciences of Tenerife, which makes the exhibition offer varied and entertaining.
We can discover from the geological origin of the islands with interesting recreations of volcanic eruptions through audiovisual material, to a deep knowledge of the endemic species of the islands.
Although all the contents of the museum are interesting, the area dedicated to the Guanche culture takes the cake. The Guanches were the ancient settlers of the island of Tenerife and in this museum important vestiges of these settlers are preserved. The most interesting and striking are the mummies preserved in it.

TEA – Tenerife Espacio de las Artes
This museum is also located in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, right next to the MUNA, so you can visit both in one day.
Tenerife was an important point in the avant-garde of the twentieth century, being a place of visit of André Breton, who christened this place as Starry Castle of the Arts. In honor of this, the building that today houses the TEA was conceived, a huge walled “castle” in which photography and contemporary art pieces are temporarily and permanently exhibited.
The building alone is worth a visit. Although from the outside it may seem rough and closed, like a castle, from the inside it seems light and fluid, like the universe. The holes in the concrete mimic the stars and constellations visible from the island.
In this museum you can enjoy world-class temporary exhibitions and also the museum’s collection ranging from photography to works by Oscar Dominguez.

Museum of Science and the Cosmos
If there is an ideal museum to visit with the family and have fun, it is the Museum of Science and the Cosmos. It is located in La Laguna, so it may be a good idea to combine a visit to the historic center and complete the day by visiting the museum.
The museum is almost 100% interactive and you can opt for a guided tour. From here, we recommend you to do it because the experience is greatly enhanced by the museum guides.
The content of the museum ranges from the knowledge of the universe to the experimentation of the most basic laws of physics, all explained through “experiments” that you can put into practice yourself. It is the most important astrophysics museum in the Canary Islands and one of the best in Spain.
If there is something you can’t miss in this museum is the planetarium, recently renovated.
